Day 3 and 4 Dresden

 41 miles to Dresden

Enter Germany after 7 miles.  Yay, only Euros from now on.  Much easier.

Another castle on the hill.
Cliff walls lining the river today.

Festung Konigstein - largest fortress in Europe.  Also called the "Saxon Bastille".  The castle chapel is the oldest structure on the site and was built in the early 13th century.  The rest of the buildings were added in the 1400's and 1500's.  There is a water well that used to serve the castle in the central courtyard.  It was drilled in 1563 and is 500 feet deep!!  (2nd deepest well in Europe)  It's hard to imagine how they accomplished that with the rudimentary tools of the time.  Remarkable!!

The fortress was considered unconquerable and, in fact, was never conquered.

Interesting stone formations along the river.  You can see a stone bridge in the middle of the photo.  I could also see people hiking amongst the rocks.
I'll post pictures of Dresden later - but it looks impressive!
