Day 1 Melnik

42miles to Melnik

I rode past the Horin Lock today but it was raining so no pictures.  It is the oldest lock system in the Czech Republic.  Built in 1902.  On the Vltava River.

After winding my way out of Prague I followed a nice bike path along the Vltava river.  Most of it was paved and flat.  I did go over a hill today - 340 ft of climbing.  I'll have to look at my route but that might be the biggest hill of the entire trip!!  Quite a difference from the Rockies last year.

A nice section of the trail following the Vltava River.
This part of the Elbe River trail follows the Eurovelo 7 bike route.  EuroVelo 7, named the Sun Route, is a 7,409 km long EuroVelo long-distance cycling route running north–south through the whole of Europe from the North Cape in Norway to the island of Malta in the Mediterranean Sea.
That's a trip for another year!!

Campsite tonight at Autocamp Melnik.

Now on the Elbe River path until it empties into the North Sea.

  1. Did you end up dodging the rain? Glad you got your "biggest" hill out of the way! That's pretty nice!

  2. On and off rain. Nothing hard, just nuisance stuff - enough to make me wet and cold.
